Keith Olbermann Proven Wrong

The Road to Serfdom

From: John Stossel

Government is taking us a long way down the Road to Serfdom. That doesn’t just mean that more of us must work for the government. It means that we are changing from independent, self-responsible people into a submissive flock. The welfare state kills the creative spirit. F.A. Hayek, an Austrian economist living in Britain, wrote ‘The Road to Serfdom’ in 1944 as a warning that central economic planning would extinguish freedom. … Hayek meant that governments can’t plan economies without planning people’s lives. After all, an economy is just individuals engaging in exchanges. The scientific-sounding language of President Obama’s economic planning hides the fact that people must shelve their own plans in favor of government’s single plan. At the beginning of ‘The Road to Serfdom,’ Hayek acknowledges that mere material wealth is not all that’s at stake when the government controls our lives: ‘The most important change … is a psychological change, an alteration in the character of the people.’ This shouldn’t be controversial. If government relieves us of the responsibility of living by bailing us out, character will atrophy. The welfare state, however good its intentions of creating material equality, can’t help but make us dependent. That changes the psychology of society. According to the Tax Foundation, 60 percent of the population now gets more in government benefits than it pays in taxes. What does it say about a society in which more than half the people live at the expense of the rest?

Taxing the Millionaires

From: Reason

And many people classified as millionaires aren’t millionaires at all. Out of the 300,000 or so joint tax filers earning more than $1 million, about 90 percent have small business income. That’s because 75 percent of America’s small businesses are structured as pass-through entities and pay their business taxes at the individual level. So the $1 million isn’t going into those individuals’ pockets; it’s money they use to run their businesses. To avoid the new tax, those businesses would have to adopt a new structure and start paying the complicated corporate income tax.

Schwarzenegger Flips Off Lawmakers

From: Threat Level

California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger is ticked off.

He’s tired of signing bills that don’t address the pet causes he deems important. So when another unworthy bill crossed his desk recently for signing — addressing funding issues for the Port of San Francisco — the guv vetoed it and sent lawmakers a little note saying why. Only the note said a little more than lawmakers were expecting.

Brain-Dead Conservatives Obsessed with ‘Freedom’

Satire from: Pajamas Media

Conservative arguments against President Obama are becoming increasingly silly. They oppose Obama rescuing businesses despite all the jobs on the line, they’re against government taking control of health care from soulless insurance companies, and they oppose increased taxes on energy consumption despite the sorry state of the environment. And why do they oppose these most sensible actions? Because of their irrational, brain-dead obsession with liberty

…Liberty doesn’t feed your family. Liberty doesn’t heal you when you’re sick. Liberty doesn’t educate your children. A strong government can do all those things, but apparently that’s against liberty.

… Most of the civilized world has moved beyond this uncompromising view of “freedom” — if they were ever foolish enough to adopt it in the first place. Can you think of any other country that would permit its citizens to have guns like America does? Of course not; that’s beyond moronic. People know freedom is a dangerous, scary thing, and you have to be careful how much you tolerate.

The Tyranny of Unviversal Healthcare

“Of all tyrannies, a tyranny exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It may be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron’s cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end, for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.” – CS Lewis   God in the Dock: Essays on Theology and Ethics

How to find a Tax Day Tea Party in your area. Click here

“[April 15] is the last day for filing income tax returns — a day that reminds us that taxpayers pay too much of their earnings to the Federal Government. … While April 15 serves as a reminder, the people of the United States truly do not need to be reminded. They are victims of inflation, which pushes them into higher tax brackets. They are robbed daily of a better standard of living. They are discouraged from work and investment. … The choice before us is clear. I strongly feel that the great majority of Americans believe that nothing would better encourage economic growth than leaving more money in the hands of the people who earn it. It’s time to stop stripping bare the productive citizens of America and funneling their hard-earned income into the Federal bureaucracy.” —Ronald Reagan

What do you call it when the government controls the banks and the newspapers? Let’s see, its right on the tip of my tongue … I know it ends in “ism”. I think China’s government is similar. Oh well, it will come to me I’m sure.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – With many U.S. newspapers struggling to survive, a Democratic senator on Tuesday introduced a bill to help them by allowing newspaper companies to restructure as nonprofits with a variety of tax breaks.

President Fails Our Wounded Vets

The President has proposed a new plan that would place the burden of care for disabled veterans on private companies, instead of the government. The idea is that the government should be reimbursed for the veterans´ healthcare. There are countless ways to make money and the Presidentś first idea is the government should not have to pay for the healthcare of our service men and women?

If I Am a Racist, Hate-Filled, Fear-Monger – Can Obama Still Be a Marxist?

Some people dismiss my insistence that Obama is a communist (Marxist) as the ranting of a racist, hate-filled, redneck who is just opposed to change.   Well if you believe that is that path that brought me to this point then please don’t bother to read this and certainly do not respond. To quote that brilliant statesman Al Gore, “The time for debate is over.”

If you can read (or better yet listen) to the man’s actual words and still maintain that he is not a Marxist, bent on the complete reinterpretation of the constitution and dismantling of our capitalist society, then all I can say my friends is, get your excuses ready because the train’s a come’n.

The transcript below is from a radio interview on Chicago Public Radio from 2001.  I heard it for the first time yesterday. If you don’t understand what it means, just watch The Daily Show or Saturday Night Live. They will explain it to you in a way that will make you laugh at what a fearful buffoon I am.

Barack Obama, in 2001:

You know, if you look at the victories and failures of the civil-rights movement, and its litigation strategy in the court, I think where it succeeded was to vest formal rights in previously dispossessed peoples. So that I would now have the right to vote, I would now be able to sit at a lunch counter and order and as long as I could pay for it, I’d be okay, but the Supreme Court never entered into the issues of redistribution of wealth, and sort of more basic issues of political and economic justice in this society.

Sarah Palin and Political Courage

From: Fred Thomson

For many years we have failed to address looming problems that will prove catastrophic to our nation. It’s not because we are bereft of leaders with great experience. And it is not because they do not understand the “essential current of events.” They know these things all too well. It is because they do not have the political courage to do anything about it.

The Audacity Of Socialism

From: IBD

Barack Obama summed up well the perversity of Democratic Party thinking when he told Fox News’ Bill O’Reilly that it is “neighborliness” for Washington to hike taxes on those who are “sitting pretty.”

…It’s galling that Obama thinks his definitions of “neighborliness” and “fairness” should be codified into tax law while ignoring the possibility that others might not agree with his personal interpretation of those words. Why should Obama’s definitions carry more weight than someone who believes that being a good neighbor and being fair means supporting one low rate for everyone?

America needs more outsiders in Washington, D.C. now more than ever. We need more tough, standup hockey moms like Governor Sarah Palin. We need more ordinary Americans to springboard from small city councils to the halls of congress and beyond. We need welders, cops, teachers, ditch diggers, business people, construction workers, secretaries, auto mechanics, and guitar slingers to come to Washington, D.C. and replant the good old “We the People” tree.

Democracy In The Dark

Earlier today the House Democrats adjourned for the day and the Speaker decided to turn the lights, mics and C-SPAN cameras off. The Republicans were not done and decided to continue the debate on the House floor in the dark.

Via The Politico:

“This is the people’s House,” said Rep. Thaddeus McCotter (R-Mich.). “This is not Pelosi’s politiburo.”

Democratic aides were furious at the GOP stunt, and reporters were kicked out of the Speaker’s Lobby, the space next to the House floor where they normally interview lawmakers.

“You’re not covering this, are you?” complained one senior Democratic aide. Another called the Republicans “morons” for staying on the floor.

Obama’s “Economic Justice”

What will”Economic Justice” mean for you?

During his NAACP speech earlier this month, Sen. Obama repeated the term at least four times. “I’ve been working my entire adult life to help build an America where economic justice is being served,” he said at the group’s 99th annual convention in Cincinnati.

And as president, “we’ll ensure that economic justice is served,” he asserted. “That’s what this election is about.” Obama never spelled out the meaning of the term, but he didn’t have to. His audience knew what he meant, judging from its thumping approval.

It’s the rest of the public that remains in the dark, which is why we’re launching this special educational series.

“Economic justice” simply means punishing the successful and redistributing their wealth by government fiat. It’s a euphemism for socialism.
