Thomas Jefferson on Gun-Free Zones

From: The Patriot Post

In his Commonplace Book, Jefferson quotes Cesare Beccaria from his seminal work, On Crimes and Punishment: “Laws that forbid the carrying of arms… disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes… Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man.”

The same can be said of so-called “gun-free zones”

‘Yahoo Betrayed My Husband’

From: Wired

FAIRFAX, Virginia — Early one Sunday morning in 2002, a phone rings in Yu Ling’s Beijing duplex. She’s cleaning upstairs; her son is asleep, while downstairs, her husband, Wang Xiaoning, is on the computer. Wang writes about politics, anonymously e-mailing his online e-journals to a group of Yahoo users. He’s been having problems with his Yahoo service recently. He thinks it’s a technical issue. This is the day he learns he’s wrong.

Wang picks up the phone: “Yes?”

“Are you home?” asks the unfamiliar voice on the other end.

“Yes.”

The line goes dead.

Moments later, government agents swarm through the front door — 10 of them, some in uniform, some not. They take Wang away. They take his computers and disks. They shove an official notice into Yu’s hands, tell her to keep quiet, and leave. This is how it’s done in China. This is how the internet police grab you.

Government Mandated Art

From: Neal Boortz

… A task force appointed by the Mayor has determined that Atlanta needs a cultural investment fund in the amount of at least $10 million that will provide money to artists, arts organizations and what it refers to as “cultural organizations.” The suggestion is that there should be a tax on businesses operating in Atlanta to provide the funds. The story in this morning’s Atlanta Journal-Constitution says that “Many of those who work in the arts in Atlanta said they hope to see some progress on arts funding soon.”

At this point you shouldn’t need a translation of that quote from the AJC. But then again, many of you went to government schools, so I’ll provide that translation for you. Many of the people in the arts community in Atlanta remain frustrated by the fact that Atlanta residents will not voluntarily pay for their art. So, of the Atlanta residents won’t voluntarily buy their art, the government should step in and make them buy the art by seizing their money and transferring that money to artists and arts organizations.

And what about this idea of placing a special tax on Atlanta businesses? What we have here is the arts community taking advantage of the ignorance of our government-educated residents. They know that many people think that if the tax is placed on the businesses this means that the rank and file Atlantans won’t be paying for the art. Sadly, they’re possibly right. Our education is so pathetic that most people can’t noodle out the fact that all taxes paid by businesses are passed on to the consumers of whatever service or goods they sell.

FBI Misused Patriot Act – Report Says

I told you so. What a surprise.

From: Wired

“The report indicates abuse of the authority” Congress gave the FBI, said Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Patrick Leahy, D-Vt. “You cannot have people act as free agents on something where they’re going to be delving into your privacy.”

The committee’s top Republican, Pennsylvania Sen. Arlen Specter, said the FBI appears to have “badly misused national security letters.” The senator said, “This is, regrettably, part of an ongoing process where the federal authorities are not really sensitive to privacy and go far beyond what we have authorized.”

Democracy or Liberty
By Walter E. Williams

In Federalist Paper No. 10, James Madison wrote, “Measures are too often decided, not according to the rules of justice and the rights of the minor party, but by the superior force of an interested and overbearing majority.” That’s another way of saying that one of the primary dangers of majority rule is that it confers an aura of legitimacy and respectability on acts that would otherwise be deemed tyrannical. Liberty and democracy are not synonymous and could actually be opposites.

Usurping The Constitution

It was brought to my attention recently that former president Clinton signed a presidential directive that is in direct violation of the Constitution. So naturally, me being me, I did not take the person’s word and looked it up myself. After reading the directive I have come to agree with said person. To be more specific the presidential directive violates the first paragraph of Article 2 Section 2 which states:

The President shall be commander in chief of the Army and Navy of the United States, and of the militia of the several states, when called into the actual service of the United States; he may require the opinion, in writing, of the principal officer in each of the executive departments, upon any subject relating to the duties of their respective offices, and he shall have power to grant reprieves and pardons for offenses against the United States, except in cases of impeachment.

But don’t take my word for it, check it out yourself.

Selffulfilling Prophecy

A Democrat has proposed reinstating the draft for the military. The Democrats previously said that Republicans would bring back the draft and were using that as a reason to vote for Democrats and now they are the ones proposing a draft (see title). Who in their right mind thinks like that? Any country that cannot sustain a volunteer military, obviously does not have the support of the people. Any politician proposing a draft is not welcome on this blog, no matter what party they happen to affiliate themselves with at the time.

Micheal Scheuer is an ex-CIA agent who recently wrote an op-ed stating that a vote for a Democrat is a vote against security. Scheuer has not been a fan of the president by any means but he realizes that many of the Democrats once elected will be all talk and no action. I have seen Scheuer speak on many occasions including on 60minutes, Fox News and C-SPAN and I believe that he tells it like it is whether it’s what you want to hear or not. It is obvious that he is genuinely concerned about the security of the nation.

The Rape (Islamization) of Europe

From: The Brussels Journal

The German author Henryk M. Broder recently told the Dutch newspaper De Volkskrant (12 October) that young Europeans who love freedom, better emigrate. Europe as we know it will no longer exist 20 years from now. Whilst sitting on a terrace in Berlin, Broder pointed to the other customers and the passers-by and said melancholically: “We are watching the world of yesterday.”

… Broder is convinced that the Europeans are not willing to oppose islamization. “The dominant ethos,” he told De Volkskrant, “is perfectly voiced by the stupid blonde woman author with whom I recently debated. She said that it is sometimes better to let yourself be raped than to risk serious injuries while resisting. She said it is sometimes better to avoid fighting than run the risk of death.”

… In a recent op-ed piece in the Brussels newspaper De Standaard (23 October) the Dutch (gay and self-declared “humanist”) author Oscar Van den Boogaard refers to Broder’s interview. Van den Boogaard says that to him coping with the islamization of Europe is like “a process of mourning.” He is overwhelmed by a “feeling of sadness.” “I am not a warrior,” he says, “but who is? I have never learned to fight for my freedom. I was only good at enjoying it.” “

Abducted, Raped, and Stabbed by Two Illegal Aliens

This from our friend Britt:

“Two illegals abducted, raped, and carved-up the daughter of an old friend of mine. She was stabbed 15 times and left for dead. Someone told me they could just have as easily been American citizens; to that, I say, fact is they were two illegals, hypothetical’s aside. She has reported to Texas Tech to start her freshman year. She has massive scars many across her face. She has a large body cast which hold her arms up as both arms were basically totally cut from her body, only some skin and a little muscle held them on. I sat with her Grandmother the other day and the girl is determined not to let this define her future, she is 18 years old.”

So here are two questions. Is Britt a racist because he points out that these butchers are Mexican nationals in the country illegally? Am I a racist because I blogged his comments? I am guessing there are many who would say yes to both. They would be wrong.
